BREED STANDARD
Havanese
FCI 250
Country of breed: CUBA
Patronage: FCI
A brief history:
This breed comes from the Western Mediterranean region and has developed along the coasts of Spain and Italy.
It seems that these dogs were imported early on to Cuba by Italian sailors.
By mistake, because the most common color of these dogs (tobacco color – brown – red) created a legend about the origin of this breed native of Havana, capital of Cuba.
Historical events caused the complete disappearance of the old line Havanese in Cuba. Few offspring survived in the United States after having been exported from the island illegally.
General Appearance:
Havanese is a small, lively dog, low on his legs with a long robe, generous, soft and nicer seen – waving.
His movement is lively and elastic.

Length of muzzle is equal to the distance between the stop and the occiput.
The ratio of body length (measured from top of shoulder to point of buttock) to height at the withers is 4:3.

Hearty nature, cheerful, is a nice, charming, playful and a bit of a clown.
He likes children and can play with them endlessly.
Head: Medium length, the ratio of the length of the head and the body (measured from the withers to the tail) is 3:7.

Eyes: Quite big, almond-shaped and brown in the darkest shade. Mild expression. Eye rims dark brown or black.
Ears: Set fairly high, falling along the cheeks forming a discreet fold which raises them slightly. Their ends are slightly pointed. They are covered with hair in long fringes. I do not like the arms of a windmill inclined nor adhering closely to the cheeks.
NECK: Of medium length.
Body: Length of body slightly longer than height at withers.
Topline: Straight, slightly arched in the lumbar area.
Croup: Slightly sloping.
Ribs well sprung.

Forelegs: straight and parallel, lean , good bone . The distance between the ground and the elbow should not be greater than that between the elbow and the withers.
Hindquarters: good bone , moderate angulation .
Feet: slightly elongated , small , compact.
Movement: Havanese has a strikingly revenues lightweight and flexible , emphasizing his cheerful nature . The free movement of the front legs in a straight line from podążającymi them hind limbs .

Genre hair: woolly undercoat , poorly developed , often completely absent.
The topcoat is very long ( 12-18 cm in an adult dog ) , soft, flat or wavy can create curls.
All grooming , the alignment length hair with scissors or depilated are prohibited.
The exception is the arrangement of the hair on the legs, which is permitted, the hair on the forehead may be slightly shortened to not cover the eyes and on the muzzle may be slightly cropped , but better to leave them in their natural state.
